Sacred Journey: Catholic Pilgrimage Through the Holy Land – 7-Day Spiritual Tour

Yinon Ben Hod

Day 1: The Word & The Spirit: A Catholic Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

Our Catholic Pilgrimage to the Holy Land begins as we land at Ben Gurion International Airport. Here, we will meet our guide and board the group bus for a scenic drive to Caesarea Maritima.

This splendid port city, built by Herod, was one of the most important cities in the Roman world and the capital of the province of Judea during the time of Jesus. It is also the site of significant events from Acts Chapter 10.

Next, we drive along the Mediterranean coast to Mount Carmel (Muchraka), the site where the prophet Elijah confronted the false prophets of Baal and led Israel in national repentance. We then cross the Jezreel Valley, arriving in Tiberias, on the Sea of Galilee, where we will check in to our hotel.

Day 2: Dinner and overnight in Tiberias

Today, our Catholic Pilgrimage in the Holy Land continues with a visit to Mount Tabor, believed to be the site of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Here, He became radiant in glory and held a conversation with Moses and Elijah.

We then proceed to Cana of the Galilee, famous as the place where Jesus performed His first public miracle by turning water into wine at a wedding feast (John 2:1-11). We will celebrate Mass here.

In the afternoon, we explore the Sea of Galilee, often referred to as “The Fifth Gospel” because much of Jesus’ ministry took place on its shores. We’ll take a memorable boat ride on these sacred waters, where Jesus performed miracles like walking on water and calming the storm.

Day 3: Dinner and overnight in Tiberias

Our pilgrimage brings us to the Mount of Beatitudes, believed to be the location where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). Here, we will celebrate Mass.

We then visit Tabgha, where Jesus fed the five thousand and met His disciples while they were fishing. Next, we travel to Capernaum, known as the “Town of Jesus,” where He lived during His Galilean ministry.

We continue to Magdala, the hometown of Mary Magdalene, where we will see a First Century fishing village and a synagogue where Jesus taught.

In the afternoon, we journey south along the Jordan River to Jerusalem.

Day 4: Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem

We begin our day at the Inn of the Good Samaritan and celebrate Mass here as part of our Catholic Pilgrimage in the Holy Land.

We then drive south along the Dead Sea to Masada, Herod’s hilltop fortress, where Jewish zealots famously chose to take their own lives rather than be taken as slaves by the Romans. Next, we visit Qumran, the ancient settlement where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.

Before leaving the Dead Sea, we will have an opportunity to bathe in its famously salty and mineral-rich waters.

Day 5: Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem

Today, our pilgrimage takes us to the Mount of Olives, where Jesus delivered the “Olivet Discourse” (Matthew 24) and ascended to heaven after His resurrection. We will celebrate Mass here.

We will also visit the City of David, the Jewish Quarter, and the Western Wall, all significant holy sites within historic Jerusalem. Our day concludes with a tour of the Southern Steps of the Temple entrance, the probable location of Peter’s sermon in Acts Chapter 2.

Day 6: Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem

We begin the day with Mass at The Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed before His crucifixion.

From here, we walk to the Lion’s Gate, entering the Old City of Jerusalem and starting the Via Dolorosa, the path Jesus walked from the judgment seat of Pontius Pilate to His crucifixion.

Day 7: Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

On our final day, we drive out of Jerusalem to celebrate Mass at the Benedictine Monastery in Abu Gosh, the traditional site of Emmaus, where Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection.

We then visit the Yad HaShmona village, home to Biblical Gardens that illustrate life during the times of Jesus. Our pilgrimage concludes with a visit to the beautiful Ellah Valley, where David defeated Goliath, followed by a tour of Old Jaffa, the port city from which Jonah set sail to Nineveh.

Before transferring to Ben Gurion Airport for our return flight, we will enjoy some free time and a farewell dinner in Old Jaffa.
